The Disney Investor’s Meeting wasted no time in unveiling a slew of new Star Wars products this afternoon. Most of them will find their way to Disney+, including the anticipated Ahsoka Tano live action series and a few surprises. Here’s a recap of everything Star Wars coming from Disney and Lucasfilm in the next few years:
Andor
The Cassian Andor series has been in the works for some time, but not we get a comprehensive first look. (See above.) Genevieve O’Reilly returns as Mon Montha, and Cassian Andor embarks on his “tense, nail-biting spy thriller” in 2022.
Lucasfilm introduces The Bad Batch
New to the Clone Wars in its final season, The Bad Batch of genetically engineered clones get their own show for Disney+. “In the post-Clone War era, they will take on daring mercenary missions as they struggle to stay afloat and find new purpose.” There is no date for the Lucasfilm animated series’ release.
Ahsoka
The Clone Wars and Rebels fan favorite gets her own stand-alone series on Disney+. Rosario Dawson will reprise the live action role she began in The Mandalorian Chapter 13, “The Jedi.”
Lucasfilm brings Vader back for Kenobi series
We already knew that Ewan McGregor would be back as Obi-Wan Kenobi. Today Lucasfilm confirms that Hayden Christensen returns as well.
He will portray Darth Vader, as the series take place ten years following the events of Revenge of the Sith. “I’m excited to work with Ewan again,” says Christensen. “ It feels good to be back.”
Lucasfilm presents The Acolyte
We knew it was a matter of time before we got a High Republic announcement…. And now we have it. “The Acolyte is a mystery-thriller that will take the audience into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark side powers in the final days of the High Republic era.” This is the series to come from Leslye Headland.
Rangers of the New Republic
Wonder why we’ve seen so much of X-wing pilots in The Mandalorian Season 2? That’s because a new series is coming to tie in to the show. “Set within the timeline of The Mandalorian, this new live-action series from executive producers Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni will intersect with future stories and culminate into a climactic story event.”
A Droid Story
Lucasfilm is getting back into droid animation with a new series for Disney+. “This epic journey will introduce us to a new hero, guided by legendary duo R2-D2 and C-3PO.”
Visions
“Star Wars: Visions will be a series of animated short films celebrating Star Wars through the lens of the world’s best anime creators. The anthology collection will bring 10 fantastic visions from several of the leading Japanese anime studios, offering a fresh and diverse cultural perspective to Star Wars.”
Lando
The smooth-taking smuggler is back with his own series. This has been the subject of the rumor mill since before Disney+ even hit the airwaves. Lucasfilm confirmed it today.
Taika Waititi film
Waititi’s Star Wars film is officially in development. “Taika’s approach to Star Wars will be fresh, unexpected, and…unique,” said Kennedy. “His enormous talent and sense of humor will ensure that audiences are in for an unforgettable ride.”
And the biggest Lucasfilm Reveal: Rogue Squadron
In the day’s biggest Lucasfilm announcement we learned that Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman) will direct 2023. The story will introduce a new generation of starfighter pilots as they earn their wings and risk their lives in a boundary-pushing, high-speed thrill-ride, and move the saga into the future era of the galaxy.
Notably absent, to the delight of a great many fans? Any mention of Rian Johnson.
Stay tuned for updates on all these Lucasfilm projects in the weeks to come!
