There are a lot of words you could use to describe 2020. Eventful. Stressful. Life-altering. But you probably wouldn’t say “funny.”
Netflix is ready to change that. They’re ending the year with Death to 2020, a mockumentary-style comedy special about this year. Check out the teaser below.
Netflix’s spoof documentary will feature footage of real-life events with fake commentary by “renowned experts” (comedians).
The special is jam-packed with celebrities. The teaser mentions Samuel L. Jackson, Hugh Grant, Lisa Kudrow, Kumail Nanjiani, Tracey Ullman, Samson Kayo, Leslie Jones, Diane Morgan, Cristin Milioti, and Joe Keery.
Here’s the official synopsis for Death To 2020 from Netflix:
2020: A year so [insert adjective of choice here], even the creators of Black Mirror couldn’t make it up… but that doesn’t mean they don’t have a little something to add. Death to 2020 is a comedy event that tells the story of the dreadful year that was — and perhaps still is? This landmark documentary-style special weaves together some of the world’s most (fictitious) renowned voices with real-life archival footage spanning the past 12 months.
Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones created and executive produced the special. Alison Marlow also produces.
The special doesn’t have a release date yet. (The teaser just says “coming soon.”) But since it’s a 2020 recap, you can probably expect it in late December.

I am disgusted that anyone could make light of this absolutely HORRIBLE tragedy that was/is 2020. All of you crazy liberal movie stars and producers should be ashamed of yourselves. So worried about labels, being all inclusive and not offending anyone… yet you take part in a 70 minute comedy mocking all of the men and women who will never recover from this. The doctors, psychologists, scientists, front line workers, police officers and all the helpless people who have died alone. What about their families? What about them? Anyone who took part in this disgusting production should be forced to go through and experience what anyone with an OUNCE of compassion has been dealing with for the past 10 months. Samuel Jackson, Lisa Kudrow and the entire cast… you are a pieces of shit. Anything to make a quick buck and capitalize on situations where people are suffering and have suffered. SCUMBAGS!!!
