Gotham may be Batman’s city, but his fans will find the Caped Crusader in Burbank, California.
(And I’m not just talking about the Warner Bros. lot, although if you’re visiting you should definitely go and check out the studio’s collection of Batmobiles.)
No, the latest Burbank tribute to the DC hero is a giant bronze statue.
The larger-than-life piece stands an impressive seven and a half feet tall and weighs 600 pounds. CCO of DC and world-renowned artist/publisher Jim Lee designed the tribute.
Of course, there are many versions of Batman out there. After all, the character’s been around for 80+ years. Specifically, this statue of Batman is modeled after the acclaimed Batman: Hush design.
The impressive project was a collaboration between DC and Visit Burbank, the city’s tourism effort. Digital sculptor Alejandro Pereira Ezcurra reimagined the 2002 Hush Batman into 3D. Then, artisans at Burbank’s American Fine Arts Foundry and Fabrication expertly crafted it in bronze.
If you’re an LA local or visiting the city of Burbank, you can check out the new Batman statue in person. You’ll find the Caped Crusader towering over visitors at the AMC Walkway in Downtown Burbank.
(Due to the ongoing pandemic, the city encourages everyone to practice social distancing while viewing the statue. Face masks are also mandated in California.)
