Warning! Spoilers for Star Wars: The Mandalorian Chapter 11 — The Heiress are ahead.
In one of the best episodes of Star Wars: The Mandalorian among the 11 released thus far, Chapter 11: The Heiress reveals a connection from Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. Also, the plot moves along steadily. It was great that Bryce Dallas Howard was allowed to direct another episode of the show – and did so well. Jon Favreau wrote an amazing story, but the episode went by way too fast for my liking.
Here are five takeaways from Chapter 11: The Heiress.
1) More Than One Way To Be A Mandalorian
Shortly after Din Djarin (the Mandalorian) meets three Mandalorians, led by The Clone Wars and Rebels’ Bo-Katan Kryze, the three take their helmets off. Din is shocked, saying that a Mandalorian doesn’t do that. Later, an objective that Din opposes is one about which Bo-Katan says “This is the way,” a key Mandalorian phrase. These events really turn things on their head for Din. And what they are saying is that there are different, totally acceptable approaches to being a Mandalorian.
2) Kryze And Her Trio Will Go After The Darksaber
This was established mere moments after we see Moff Gideon, who was last seen with the Darksaber, in the episode (as a hologram). The Darksaber is a weapon respected by all Mandalorians.
3) Din will seek out Ahsoka Tano
Bo-Katan tells Din that the Jedi he must find is Ahsoka. I’m disappointed that the Jedi Din is seeking is not Luke Skywalker – didn’t Ahsoka leave the Jedi? – but Mark Hamill has retired from Luke and it’s difficult seeing someone else in the role, so it’s fine. And besides, Ahsoka rocks. (Though, again, didn’t Ahsoka leave the Jedi?)
4) Great Action Of Mandalorians Vs. Stormtroopers
Let’s say it again: Mandalorians vs. stormtroopers!
It was actually part of a lot of great action in the episode.
5) Mon Calamari!
We get to see the Mon Calamari species (and the Quarren) in their natural habitat! (Although, it was the estuary moon of Trask and not Mon Cala.) It’s great to see settings you envision when you hear about them in the Star Wars galaxy.
