When the HBO Hellraiser series was announced, it was a disappointing development that Clive Barker wasn’t attached. Notably, Barker hasn’t been attached to the series since 1996. So it’s a long time coming for the series that made Barker a household name. Deadline is reporting that Clive Barker is on as an executive producer. The series doesn’t just have Barker on board though.
David Gordon Green, (Halloween and Halloween Kills director), is in the director’s chair for the pilot episode and more. Michael Dougherty (Trick ‘r Treat, Krampus) and Mark Verheiden (Battlestar Galactica) are on as the writers for the series.
This’ll be the first ever Hellraiser television series, so that’s incredibly exciting. The series is looking to continue the mythos set forward by the film franchise and Barker’s novels. Barker had this to say about the project.
I’m delighted the Hellraiser mythology is seeing a new life. It’s time the stories went back to their roots. I’m eager to bring to a new audience the most powerful and ancient elements of horror: the darkest evil invading our human lives and how we must find in ourselves the power to resist it.
Clive Barker to Deadline
There’s no mention if the classic actors for the Cenobites are returning. This is nonetheless exciting news for fans of the horror series.
