Thanks to our friends at Dark Horse Comics, I was able to get an early look at the new Stranger Things and Dungeons & Dragons #1 crossover comic. Writers Jody Houser and Jim Zub, take us back to Hawkins Indiana to follow Mike, Lucas, Will, and Dustin during a time before the Upside Down and the Demogorgon. During this time, we will see the crew start to bond as they discover the role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons. Stranger Things And Dungeons & Dragons #1 will be available at your local comic book shops on November 4th.
STRANGER THINGS AND DUNGEONS & DRAGONS #1
STRANGER THINGS AND DUNGEONS & DRAGONS #1, THE STORY
As a fan of Stranger Things, I really didn’t know what to expect from this comic. Like most of the comics in the Stranger Things series, we get introduced to the main characters. But this was a little different. Instead of meeting new characters, we were reintroduced to the crew from Hawkins; Mike, Lucas, Will, and Dustin as they learn about the role playing game Dungeons & Dragons. In a issue that has very little action, you are still drawn in as you see them bond and deal with bullying and other challenges.
The Art
Artist Diego Galindo and Colorist Msassyk did a great job in giving us a colorful and bright looking Hawkins in Stranger Things and Dungeons & Dragons #1. They also were able to go back and forth from the kids’ Hawkins life to world to the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy world without taking away from the story. On top of all this the artist team was still able to give us that classic 80s look.
My Final Thoughts
Stranger Things and Dungeons & Dragons #1 is an entertaining and fun story. It was nice to get a look at Will, Mike, Lucas, and Dustin before their lives got turned “Upside Down”. This Stranger Things origin story mixed with the fantasy world of Dungeons & Dragons is a must for fans!
