2020 has been a year of one thing. Delays. Halloween Kills? Delayed. Candyman? Delayed. Horror conventions? Delayed or outright cancelled. In a sea of depressing news, there are some things that can still put a smile on your face. This is one of them. Texas Chainsaw Massacre is back. And it has a new website, poster, and a release window.
In 2021, the face of madness returns.
If there isn’t a better endorsement for the year 2021 than that, then I don’t know what it is. Coming from producer Fede Alvarez (directed the fantastic Evil Dead remake) and directed by David Blue Garcia, the film is a continuation from Tobe Hooper’s seminal masterpiece of horror from 1974.
For a film that we haven’t seen much from, we do have a bit of information regarding the cast. It stars Elsie Fisher (Eighth Grade), Sarah Yarkin (Happy Death Day 2U), Jacob Latimore (The Maze Runner) and Moe Dunford (Vikings).
The recent years have not been kind to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise. 2013’s Texas Chainsaw 3D was a mess. 2017’s Leatherface was an attempt to flesh out (pun 100% intended) the character of Leatherface, but it was a rather dull take on the character and genre.
If there’s someone who can bring back the true fear and fright of the original film, it’s Fede Alvarez. Seriously, if you haven’t seen his remake of Evil Dead, do it.
Here’s to hoping they can get it back on track in 2021 with Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
