Ryan Reynolds is ready to be the hero we need in Free Guy.

Guy (Reynolds) isn’t your typical hero. He doesn’t have superpowers. Actually, he’s a bank teller. More specifically, he’s a bank teller NPC in an open-world video game. But one day Guy realizes the strange, repetitive pointlessness of his own life. And he decides to do something about it.

Check out the trailer for Free Guy below.

The action-comedy sees Reynolds team up with Killing Eve’s Jodie Comer. (Comer has a bit of a double roll, playing both an avatar within the game and a someone in the real world.) Together, they try to stop the game’s cancellation and save Free City.

In addition to Reynolds and Comer, the film stars Lil Rel Howery, Joe Keery, Taika Waititi, and Utkarsh Ambudkar. Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum) directs.

Free Guy originally wanted to release back in July as a summer blockbuster. Of course, the ongoing pandemic prevented that from happening.

Free Guy now plans a theatrical release for December 11. But given how many other films have shifted to a 2021 release due to COVID-19…well, let’s just say plans could change.

Luckily, the cast of Free Guy has thought this through.

So, catch Ryan Reynolds and Jodie Comer in the video game world December 11. Or maybe April. Or maybe Labor Day…
