We’re now officially in the thirty-day countdown until the premiere of The Mandalorian, Season 2. There have been plenty of teases of what’s to come, from which rampant speculation has sprung across the Internet. Who will Sasha Banks play? When will we see Ahsoka Tano, Rex, or Bo-Katan Kryze? Perhaps fans are most excited to see the (rumored) return of Boba Fett. So why not stir the pot a little further? That’s exactly what Rogue One writer Gary Whitta has done with a recent Tweet.
It’s amazing how one, simple Tweet can set fan frenzy ablaze. Gary Whitta, if you’re unfamiliar, is the writer responsible for what is still arguably the best film entry of the Disney Star Wars Era, Rogue One. He’s also lent his writing talent to Star Wars Rebels. That project saw him work side by side with show producer and writer Dave Filoni. So what did he say to peak our interest?
Gary Whitta hints at new Star Wars news
Some news coming from a galaxy far, far away next week… stay tuned.
— Gary Whitta (@garywhitta) September 30, 2020
As you can see in the one-line Tweet above, something Star Wars is coming next week. Of course he doesn’t elaborate; hence the aforementioned frenzy. The easy guess is that it has something to do with The Mandalorian. We’ve only seen one trailer for the second season thus far, after all. But… Gary Whitta, to date, has had no connection to the Disney+ series of which we’re aware.
Likewise, the Rogue One writer has already stated that he’s not involved in the upcoming Cassian Andor series, either. Thus, fans are left in a stupor. What did you mean, Gary Whitta? Are you really going to leave us in suspense?
So, what’s in store for Star Wars?
Here are our thoughts: rumors have already noted that Ahsoka Tano’s appearance in The Mandalorian will be a springboard to her own series. Plus, Dave Filoni has hinted about the future adventures of Ahsoka and Sabine Wren multiple times via social media. And Gary Whitta is responsible for writing one of the more prominent Sabine stories of Rebels (“The Antilles Extraction”).
If we had to guess: next week we’ll get a new Mandalorian Season 2 trailer that will show us Ahsoka in live-action for the first time. Thereafter Disney and Lucasfilm will officially announce a spin-off series featuring Ahsoka and Sabine, of which Gary Whitta will be a writer.
Wishful thinking? Maybe. But if it happens, you heard it here first.
