TV and film director Kat Coiro is in talks with Marvel Studios to helm the upcoming Disney+ She-Hulk series.

Originally reported by Deadline, Coiro will direct an unknown number of episodes. She will also become an executive producer on the project. The news comes after reports that Rick and Morty writer Jessica Gao will lead the writers’ room for the highly-anticipated series.

Coiro is best-known for directing episodes of popular television shows Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Shameless and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Her debut feature Marry Me premieres in theaters Valentine’s Day weekend 2021.

Who Is She-Hulk?

She-Hulk is the last character co-created by Marvel Comics’ eternal Stan Lee. The story centers around lawyer Jessica Walters who receives an emergency blood transfusion from her cousin Bruce Banner (yeah, that Bruce Banner). Walters soon discovers her gamma-induced powers give her incredible strength. Unlike her roid-rage relative, Walters maintains her intelligence after her transformation (without needing a convoluted story to explain it).

Marvel Studios’ president Kevin Feige announced the She-Hulk series at 2019’s D23 event. The series is part of Disney+’s 2022 slate of original Marvel shows, including popular characters Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel and Hawkeye.

No word on casting or production delays due to COVID-19 shutdowns. Current rumors suggest GLOW actress Alison Brie is the top choice for Jessica Walters/She-Hulk. Others report that Brooklyn Nine-Nine actress Stephanie Beatriz could dawn the gamma-green skin as well. Coiro’s hiring and past work experience directing Beatriz in Brooklyn Nine-Nine could tip the scales in her favor.

Other Marvel productions, such as Falcon and Winter Soldier, have restarted at Atlanta’s Pinewood Studios recently.
