Get ready to Scream. Neve Campbell will reprise her role as Sidney Prescott in Scream 5.
Campbell played the lead in all four previous Scream films, so it would be hard to imagine one without her. However, the actress only recently agreed to board the project.
Scream 5 comes from directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. Their filmmaking group Radio Silence produced the recent horror comedy Ready or Not. It will be their first film in the Scream franchise, as the previous four came from the late Wes Craven.
A Statement About Campbell’s Return to Scream
Radio Silence released a statement about Campbell joining the cast.
“We’re pinching ourselves! It’s hard to express how much the character Sidney Prescott shaped our love of movies and to have the chance to work with Neve is truly a dream come true. It just wouldn’t be a Scream movie without Neve and we’re so excited and honored to join her in Woodsboro,” Radio Silence said.
Campbell herself also expressed her excitement to rejoin the franchise.
“After spending time speaking with Radio Silence, they have shown such love, respect and admiration for Wes Craven and all that he’s created in the Scream franchise. I am beyond excited to step back into the role of Sidney Prescott and return to Woodsboro,” said Campbell.
Scream 5 had been chasing the lead actress for a while. Campbell told The Hollywood Reporter she was unsure about returning to the franchise without Wes Craven, but a personal letter from Radio Silence made her reconsider.
Campbell’s previous Scream co-stars David Arquette and Courteney Cox already signed on to join the film.
