Funimation just announced that they’re beginning a partnership with Viz Media. Soon, we’ll see more of Viz Media’s anime series streaming on Funimation.

Funimation at the altar with Viz Media.
I now pronounce you: business partner and business partner.

In particular, Funimation will get several new anime to stream on September 22. So far, these anime are:

Terra Formars

Terra Formars anime.
AKA: When Cockroaches Completely Stop Making Sense

A sci-fi horror biopunk anime based off the manga of the same name by Yuu Sasuga.

Basically, cockroaches that were used to seed Mars with new life somehow evolve into superpowered, ridiculously humanoid mega-roaches that take over the planet. 500 years later, Earth sends a ship full of colonists to colonize Mars. The roaches didn’t like that, so they killed them all. Understandably, people are upset about this, so they later send a team of soldier-scientists to investigate and exterminate the roaches. Oh, and these soldier-scientists also have superpowers. Yeah, strange things abound here.

Terra Formars Revenge

The sequel to Terra Formars.
AKA: The Roaches are Still Mad About Us Killing Them

The sequel to the Terra Formars anime. Now apparently, there’s a plague on Earth, and these new soldier-scientists have to go to Mars to find a cure? Oh yeah, and there’s more mega-roaches for humans to kill.

Coppelion

Coppelion anime.
AKA: Fallout: Tokyo

A sci-fi action anime based off the manga of the same name by Tomonori Inoue. Also, the only anime here that isn’t available on Crunchyroll.

Basically, a disaster results in Tokyo becoming dangerously radioactive, leading to its evacuation and abandonment. 20 years later, 3 genetically altered, radiation-resistant high school girls are sent to explore the ruins after receiving a distress call from inside the city. Yep, this is definitely Japan.

Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet (Author’s Anime Choice)

Gargantia (a must-see anime).
AKA: Mobile Suit Waterworld

A sci-fi adventure mecha romance anime based off the manga of the same name by Wataru Mitogawa.

Basically, a soldier fighting in an infinite war against hyper-advanced starfish aliens finds himself flung deep into space after a hyperdrive accident. He ends up at an unidentified ocean planet that turns out to be long-lost Earth, now regressed into Waterworld. Oh, and he has a giant mecha with him who mouths off quite a bit. Action-packed hilarity ensues.

Megalo Box

Megalo Box anime.
AKA: Boxing With Exoskeletons

A sci-fi cyberpunk sports anime based off the manga of the same name by Chikara Sasuma.

Basically, a guy from the slums decides to go into boxing to make some cash. What’s wrong with that? Well, this particular type of boxing involves the users duking it out with powered exoskeletons that make their punches lethal. Yep, underground cage matches where the participants die. What’s the worse that can happen?

Conclusion

Funimation is getting some new anime on September 22. It’s almost all shows that have been out on Crunchyroll for quite some time (with the sole exception of Coppelion), but at least fans of Funimation will see them. Tune in later to see what else Funimation managed to snag with their deal with Viz Media.
