The Powerpuff Girls was one of the most awesome and innovative cartoon series of the late 90’s and early 2000’s. The show showed little girls everywhere that not only could they kick ass, but they could do it better than the boys. Variety is reporting that the network is developing a live-action series. Instead of being the little girls of the animated show, this time they’re adults. Twenty-somethings that are mad about losing their childhood to crime-fighting. It’s a genius prospect that takes the original show and updates it. Fans of the original don’t have to worry about child actors playing the girls.
The series is being executive produced by Heather Regnier and Diablo Cody, of Juno fame. If the show lasts and gets picked up, it follows the trend for the CW of making shows like Riverdale, and their DC universe that are designed for older audiences. These shows take childhood favorites and make them more palatable for teenage audiences.
Aside from the producers and the tiny bit of updated ages, we don’t have anything else to go on. The show originally was about Blossom, Buttercup, and Bubbles as girls that fight crime. “Sugar, spice, and everything nice” as the opening of the show says. Following this, they fight crime and villains such as Mojo-Jo-Jo, the Gang Green Gang, and more.
So, what do you think of The CW bringing The Powerpuff Girls to live-action?
