Sony is looking to beef up it’s film universe. The studio has the rights to Spider-Man and his cast of characters. Kraven the Hunter is one of the most fearsome villains in that cast. According to Deadline, Sony has tapped J.C. Chandor to direct a Kraven the Hunter film. The character of Kraven hasn’t been seen on film before, but he’s a brutal foe for Spider-Man to contend with. Sony has Morbius and Venom: Let There Be Carnage also on their slate. Chandor is most well known for Netflix’s Triple Frontier. So he’s no stranger to action films with big casts.
Sony is looking to fill out their roster of characters with more pictures involving the Marvel characters. Deadline also reported yesterday that Olivia Wilde was being tapped to direct a Spider-Woman film. These two directors don’t have tons of experience with the big-budget affair of Sony and Marvel. It looks like Sony is trying to get some differing looks on their cast of characters.
The question of who would play Kraven in a film is also lighting the internet aflame of late. Original rumors were that Kraven was going to be the villain in the upcoming Spider-Man 3 (rumored to be titled Spider-Man: Homesick). Kraven is known to be a favorite of Marvel head honcho, Kevin Feige. The only character that has crossed over so-far in the Marvel–Sony deal has been Spider-Man himself. So it’s likely that Kraven stays on the Sony side.
