The upcoming Flash film starring Ezra Miller has gotten some insane news. Ben Affleck was long thought to be done with the character of Batman. With DC’s Fandome coming up this weekend, the actor is returning to the role for one last ride. His first portrayal of the character was in Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Following Justice League, it was considered that Affleck would leave the role. The Flash film is slated for a 2022 release. It had some big news earlier this year with the return of Michael Keaton to Batman. The Flash movie is supposed to set up a multiverse of the DC extended film universe.
How Affleck Fits Into The Flash
This news comes off the heels of the script being finished for The Flash. Andy Muschietti, director of It and It: Chapter Two is helming the film. Variety reported the news of Affleck making his return to the character. Muschietti had this to say about Affleck and Miller in the film.
He’s a very substantial part of the emotional impact of the movie. The interaction and relationship between Barry and Affleck’s Wayne will bring an emotional level that we haven’t seen before. It’s Barry’s movie, it’s Barry’s story, but their characters are more related than we think. They both lost their mothers to murder, and that’s one of the emotional vessels of the movie. That’s where the Affleck Batman kicks in.
Andy Muschietti to Variety
DC has a big weekend ahead of them. Their future plans for all their film and television properties are on the line. This announcement ahead of the Fandome event is just the first shot. So, what do you think of Ben Affleck coming back to the role of Batman? This is huge news but it could be just the tip of the iceberg for DC.
