Like or hate the Star Wars sequel trilogy, there is apparently one thing upon which many fans can agree. Now I know what you’re thinking: Star Wars fans agreeing? That’s preposterous! Lately I’d agree, but…. Based on a recent Reddit post there are a lot of fans that all share the same mindset when it comes to a certain moment in The Rise of Skywalker. So much so, in fact, that it just might be universally held to be the dumbest scene of the film. Which one was it, you ask?
Here’s the set-up: The secret to locating the remaining Sith Wayfinder lies in an inscription upon a Sith dagger. Rey & Company find the dagger, lose the dagger, then recover the dagger. All the while, C-3PO already has the inscription memorized…. He just needed little Babu Frik to pull it out of his mechanical mind. So the heroes arrive at the derelict Death Star II on another of Endor’s moons, and here comes the allegedly dumbest scene of The Rise of Skywalker. Rey pulls the dagger out and behold! In the words of good ol’ Director Krennic, “it’s a miracle!”
Dumbest Scene in The Rise of Skywalker
You can find a humorous discussion of the issues with the scene over on Reddit, courtesy of user DaTruestEva. Among the criticisms are the fact that the Death Star ruins still match the exact shape of the dagger. (Seriously, what are the chances?) And don’t forget that Rey just happens to be standing in the exactly precise spot to match the ruins to the dagger.
Yeah, even for me, someone who enjoyed the film, this was up there for dumbest scene of the film.
Some, however, are going even further and calling it the dumbest scene in Star Wars. Now that, my friends, is a stretch. Don’t believe me? Trying saying the following line of dialogue with a straight face:
Hold me like you did by the lake on Naboo!”
(See what I mean?)
