Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai is an upcoming animated prequel to the hit 1984 cult classic Gremlins. Unfortunately, the original voice actor for Gizmo, Howie Mandel, will not be in it.

One good Gremlin vs a whole bunch of bad ones, apparently.
Yay, more furry mayhem!

You Fed the Little Buggers After Midnight Again, Didn’t You

When the furries turn gangsta’.

Gremlins is one of those movies that stay with you, like one of those furry little guys themselves. It’s got this mixture of comedy and horror that makes for a unique and interesting movie. Even better, it will now get an animated prequel series on Warner Bros.’s HBO Max. Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai will apparently feature a 10-year old Sam Wing (presumably a younger version of Mr. Wing) during his first encounter with a little Mogwai named Gizmo. This seems like a pretty good idea for a tie-in with the first movie. Unfortunately, the actor who originally played Gizmo, Howie Mandell, will not be joining us for this prequel.

The man behind the Gremlin.
The IRL actor isn’t nearly as cute as the movie version.

Unfortunately, we don’t know why Howie Mandell will not be reprising his role as Gizmo for Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai. All we know is that he won’t be playing Gizmo, and that some other actor will be voicing him. Even worse, we still don’t know who that voice actor will be. The only consolation we get is that other cast members from Gremlins may make a cameo in Secrets of the Mogwai. Exactly who the cameos will be and the manner of their appearances is still unknown though, so you might want to take this bit of consolation with a grain of salt. In fact, take the whole salt shaker.

Mm, salty.

Good news: we’re getting an animated prequel to Gremlins! Bad news: the original voice actor for Gizmo won’t be playing him. Oh, well. Hopefully, this prequel series will be as hilariously bloody as the original. We only know that it will be out on HBO Max in 2021, so stay tuned for more news about its release date.
