The Best Fantasy Anime Series?

Demon Slayer, known by its Japanese name of Kimetsu no Yaiba, is a hit manga/anime series by Koyoharu Gotouge. How do we know it’s a hit series? Well, according to Oricon’s sales charts, the 21st and final volume of Demon Slayer sold 2 million copies in only 3 days. No matter what standard you go by, that’s a lot of manga volumes. And while we’re sad to see the series come to an end, that still means we have plenty of material for a 2nd season of the anime. Well, we’ll still have Mugen Train anime movie to sate ourselves with. That is, assuming we ever find out when the US release date is.

"Demon Slayer: Infinite Train" looks awesome already.
October 16 release date, they say. But only in Japan, they say. WHY?!

So…Why?

Why is Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba so popular? Well, when you watch the anime on Crunchyroll, even just the first episode, it’s hard not to see why. The series has a perfect mix of action and comedy that also perfectly complements the dark fantasy and horror the demons themselves bring. In fact, here’s the official Crunchyroll description straight from the site itself:

It is the Taisho Period in Japan. Tanjiro, a kindhearted boy who sells charcoal for a living, finds his family slaughtered by a demon. To make matters worse, his younger sister Nezuko, the sole survivor, has been transformed into a demon herself. Though devastated by this grim reality, Tanjiro resolves to become a “demon slayer” so that he can turn his sister back into a human, and kill the demon that massacred his family.

On top of that, the Demon Slayer anime has some of the best music I’ve heard from an anime in quite a while. Not since Fullmetal Alchemist have I ever heard such catchy tunes for the opening and ending. If you don’t believe me, listen to them yourself.

Mind you, I barely understand a third of the lyrics, but that doesn’t matter! Great music transcends the barrier of language, and touches you deep into your soul. So it goes for the music from Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. Really, the composers should get an award for this alone.

Conclusion

The manga of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is just as popular as the anime. In fact actually, the manga received a massive boost in popularity due to how great the anime is. At 2 million volumes sold in 3 days for the final volume, you can’t deny that it’s enormously successful. Catch the anime yourself for free on Crunchyroll, and find out exactly why everyone is so hyped for the series and the coming anime movie.
