Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning will officially launch on September 8, 2020. Here’s what you need to know about THQ Nordic’s remaster of this classic game.

Pretty sure those demons aren't the inhabitants of the Kingdoms of Amalur.
2 weapons are always better than 1.

The What Now?

THQ Nordic recently announced that they are making a remaster of the 2012 action-adventure RPG: Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. This remaster will be, in a stunning display of imagination, called Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning. The game will be released on September 8 this year on PC, PS4, and Xbox One; so you can play it no matter which of these systems you have. The only exception is the Nintendo Switch, so…sucks to be you if you only have a Switch.

Why should you care? Well, to be honest, I didn’t even know this game or its remaster existed until today. It seems like an interesting RPG game, similar to Skyrim. It even had a star ensemble development team, with Ken Rolston as the executive designer, R. A. Salvatore (of D&D fame) writing the story and lore, Todd McFarlane doing the artwork, and Grant Kirkhope making the music. It’s no surprise that it got great reviews from critics. Unfortunately, the company that made it, 38 Studios, went bankrupt 3 months after its release. Thus, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning ended up being the company’s one and only game. At least it went out with a bang.

The enemy executions are especially brutal.

Now that THQ Nordic bought the rights to the game in 2018 though, things can only look up for this little-known game. Who knows? Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning might even be the start of a new franchise. We’ll just have to see when it comes out in 2 months.

I can already hear a female voice shouting “No capes!”

Preorder Details

While you can’t actually buy the game yet due to the simple fact that it’s not out yet, you can still preorder the game. Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning comes in Standard and Collector’s Edition. Note that both editions comes with all 3 DLCs made for the game: The Legend of Dead Kel, Teeth of Naros, and The Weapons and Armor Bundle.

Kingdoms of Amalur: The Whale Edition.
It’s everything you could ever want.

What’s different about the Collector’s Edition? It’s basically the “Everything You Could Ever Need” Edition. Apparently, it comes with an 8.2 inch tall Alyn Shir collectible statuette, an Amalur keychain, 5 pieces of artwork, and a soundtrack CD so you can listen to Amalur music all day long.

Pricing starts at a reasonable $39.99 for the Standard Edition, but only goes up from there. Here’s a complete list:

  • PC Standard Edition – Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning – $39.99: Amazon
  • PS4 Standard Edition – Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning – $39.99: Amazon
  • Xbox One Standard Edition – Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning – $39.99: Amazon
  • PC Collector’s Edition – Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning – $99.99: Amazon
  • PS4 Collector’s Edition – Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning – $109.99: Amazon
  • Xbox One Collector’s Edition – Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning – $109.99: Amazon

I don’t know why the PC version of the Collector’s Edition is $10 cheaper than the other versions, but if you’re looking for a bargain, the PC version is the way to go.

Conclusion

Overall, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning seems like a very interesting addition to the action-adventure RPG scene. This HD remaster might be just the thing to bring it back to life.
