For the first time ever, fan-favorite comic The Sandman launches its first ever audio production.

DC Comics partnered with audiobook streaming service Audible for the exclusive release. Author Neil Gaiman himself serves as narrator. Check out the trailer below:

What Sandman Fans Can Expect From The Audiobook

Award-winning director Dirk Maggs adapted the graphic novels for audio. In addition to Gaiman’s narration, a full voice cast is on board the project. James McAvoy (It, X-Men: First Class) portrays the title character. Supporting cast members include Riz Ahmed, Kat Dennings, Taron Egerton, Samantha Morton, Bebe Neuwirth, and Andy Serkis.

Beyond the voice cast, the audiobook features a full cinematic soundscape and original musical score from British Academy Award winner James Hannigan (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince video game).

The adaptation promises to “rewrite the rules of audio entertainment the way The Sandman originally redefined the graphic novel.”

Audible plans for The Sandman to be a multi-part production. The first installment is available for preorder now. It premieres exclusively on Audible on July 15. The initial release will be in English, following it, French, German, Italian, and Spanish editions are already in the works.

More Sandman content?

The audiobook isn’t the only Sandman content fans can look forward to.

Last year, Netflix gave an 11-episode series order to a Sandman adaptation. Before, the project was at Warner Bros. (A Sandman film starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt was ultimately scrapped.)

We haven’t heard any more about the project since the announcement. We do know Gaiman will executive produce with Allan Heinberg (Wonder Woman, Grey’s Anatomy) set to write and serve as showrunner.
