A new sci-fi drama is coming to NBC. Said to be in the vein of The X-Files and Men in Black, Debris follows two agents who investigate the wreckage of a UFO and its mysterious effects on humankind.
The series stars Jonathan Tucker (Westworld) as Bryan Beneventi and Riann Steele (The Magicians) as Finola Jones. Series creator J.H. Wyman previously created Almost Human.
Debris was one of two pilots NBC put on track for a series pickup earlier this month. The project is believed to be the 2020 broadcast pilot with the most established footage prior to the COVID-19 production shutdown. While the production shutdown will affect many upcoming fall programs, Debris producers were able to edit together the available material. The first look cut received a positive reaction from NBC, boosting Debris’ series pickup chances.
Legendary and Universal Television will produce the series. Wyman formerly served as executive producer on sci-fi favorite Fringe.
NBC’s recent slate has tried to delve more into sci-fi. Following this, the broadcast network recently renewed Manifest for a third season. Manifest follows the lives of the passengers on board missing Flight 828, who return to society to discover the world aged five years.
