Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt Red announces one more delay in release to polish game to shiny chrome.
Basics
On June 18, 2020; CD Projekt Red announces another delay in Cyberpunk 2077‘s release date. Previously, the release date was supposed to be September 17. Now, it’s November 19: meaning it will be two more months before we’ll finally get to play Cyberpunk 2077.
Why is CD Projekt Red delaying Cyberpunk 2077‘s release yet again? According to the developer, the game is technically complete and fully playable. However, they apparently need more time to polish the game a bit, fix all the bugs, feed the cybernetic hamsters powering the game engine, etc.. In fact, CD Projekt Red gave us a rather length letter apologizing for the delay and explaining why.
Fortunately, CD Projekt Red announces something to tide us over until Cyberpunk 2077‘s eventual release. Apparently, they’ll be allowing gaming journalists to play the current version of the game this week. Even better, following the Night City Wire event they’ve planned for June 25, these journalists will be allowed to publish previews of the game. So yay!
Opinion
This is just speculation, but doesn’t it seem a bit coincidental that Cyberpunk 2077‘s release now coincides with the PS5’s release? CD Projekt Red has previously said that they’ll work on next-gen console versions of the game after its release, but could they be changing their minds now? Perhaps the next announcement from the developers will be that Cyberpunk 2077 will be releasing on the PS5 and Xbox Series X on November 19? Who can say? But if they do, I know I won’t be the only one excited about that.
Conclusion
It’s a bummer that we’ll have to wait two more months before we finally get to play Cyberpunk 2077. On the other hand, waiting two more months means that the end result will be all the more better. So delay all you want Cd Projekt Red, because we’re patient enough to see what you’ll have in store for us come November 19.
