Earlier this week, Ruby Rose announced that she will be leaving The CW’s Batwoman and to that, I say THANK YOU! In my opinion, this is the best thing that could’ve happened to the show. Over the last decade, The CW has done an amazing job digging itself out of the typecast casting hole it had originally created for itself – only pretty, mediocre actors/actresses are allowed on their shows. The casting of Ruby Rose as Kate Kane/Batwoman went back to this old formula, and it seems Rose also knew she wasn’t the right fit.
This leaves us with an exciting dilemma: who will be the new Kate Kane? Actress Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn-99) has thrown her hat in the ring, but when the original casting search started, executives were hell-bent on having an actress from the LGBTQ community and it seems this new search will be the same. In a statement from the studio, network, and Berlanti Productions have said that they will be looking for, “a new lead actress and member of the LGBTQ in the coming months.” Okay, sure, but I’ve got one straight lady on my list because she’d kill it.
But first, these amazing women of the LGBTQ community whom I believe would breathe new and exciting life into Kate Kane.
Megan Fox
She’s jumping back into Hollywood feet first and staring in Machine Gun Kelly’s “Bloody Valentine” video. Fox got her start in Michael Bay’s Transformers movies and the cult classic Jennifer’s Body showing us she’s not just a pretty face.
Eve Lindley
Best known as Hot Carla on Mr. Robot and the breakout star on Dispatches from St. Elsewhere opposite Jason Segal, Lindley is lesser-known, which I think is the best direction to go.
Kristen Stewart
Yeah, yeah, yeah, Bella from Twilight. Look, actors evolve – look at Robert Pattinson he’s the next Batman! If you’re unfamiliar with her later body of work I highly suggest you check it out.
Evan Rachel Wood
We’ve already seen how badass she is as Dolores in Westworld. I think that would translate really well into Kate as well as bring in all the layers to her character that have been missing.
Jamie Clayton
Known for her roles in Sense 8, Designated Survivor, and The L Word: Generation Q, I think Clayton could bring a new charm and breath of fresh air to the character of Batwoman.
Adrianne Palicki
This is my one straight female option! If they’re gonna break the LGBTQ streak it should be for her.
IT’S HER TIME! She is no stranger to the superhero world. Palicki was cast as Wonder Woman in the Wonder Woman Pilot, she kicked ass on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D. and goes toe to toe with Seth McFarlan on The Orville. I’m ready for her to continue her superhero legacy!
What do you think? Love my list? Hate my list? Have a list of your own? Let me know in the comments below!
Batwoman will be returning to The CW for its 2nd season in 2021. Hopefully, one of these incredible women will be wearing the cowl.
