While we still don’t know when production of the new Disney+ series that will be based on Cassian Andor from Rogue One, we did get some news today that two new actors will be joining the series. In a exclusive report from Variety we have learned that actors Stellan Skarsgard and Kyle Soller will be joining Diego Luna in this new Star Wars series.
Stellan Skarsgard
Skarsgard who will be in the upcoming Dune adaptation is coming off his Emmy nominated role in Chernobyl. You may also recognize him in such films as Good Will Hunting, Thor, Thor Dark World, Avengers: Age of Ultron and The Avengers.
Kyle Soller
Soller is known for his appearances in British TV series like 101 Dalmation Street and Poldark. Soller also appeared in The Titan, Fury, and recently in the HBO movie Brexit.
We don’t know currently who both of these actors will be portraying. Much about the series is still a mystery that we might not find out about for awhile due to the secrecy of Disney and the COVID-19 outbreak.
Rogue One Spin Off
Now according to Variety, “both actors are still in final negotiations for their roles. A Disney spokesperson declined to comment”. The show is going to be set before the film. It’ll follow the action of Cassian Andor in the early days of the Rebellion. Tony Gilroy, who wrote Rogue One, is returning to write and direct some of the episodes for the new show.
This new format for Star Wars could work out in Disney’s favor. They reached unprecedented success with The Mandalorian and the seventh season of The Clone Wars. It fits Star Wars better because they don’t have to cram all these characters and story into two hours any longer. They can give stories and characters time to breath. It also allows for a character like Cassian Andor, that wouldn’t normally return to the screen, a time to shine. People wondered how the Rebel Alliance got to where it was, now we’ll find out.
