Fans have been eagerly awaiting the return of Star Wars: The Clone Wars since Dave Filoni announced the show would be back for a seventh season two summers ago. Now we’re all glued to Disney+ each Friday as the show’s final season works its way to an end. It seems even the actors who are a part of the production as just as big of fans as we are. In a recent interview, Maul voice actor Sam Witwer touted the Clone Wars finale as having the “best Clone Wars script” he’d ever read.
Witwer made the bold statement while discussing the show’s final season, and his return to the Maul character, with io9. While Ray Park originally brought Darth Maul to life, Witwer is the one responsible for giving Maul the depth of character we’ve come to embrace. The Clone Wars finale, which Witwer describes as being the last four episodes of the series, will feature Maul heavily.
Clone Wars Finale to feature different side of Maul
The finale, that script, was the best Clone Wars script that I ever read. I think Dave has done a really very very cool thing. When I say script I don’t mean—when I’m talking about the finale, I’m talking about the last four episodes because it’s really meant to be seen as a movie.”

The Clone Wars finale arc will apparently give us Maul in way we’ve not seen before. Remember, we did see Maul’s ultimate fate at the hands of Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars Rebels. We also know that, before that, he became leader of the crime syndicate Crimson Dawn. Look for these final season episodes to bridge some of that gap between The Clone Wars and Solo: A Star Wars Story:
Like every other great opportunity to tell a Star Wars story, you want to make sure that what the audience is seeing is something they’ve never seen before from these characters. I do believe we give that to you as far as Maul. I believe you get to see sides of this character you’ve not quite seen. We see him trying things he’s never really quite tried—things he’s maybe not so good at. This will be really fun to see how people respond to it.”

We’ll find out what the Clone Wars finale will bring soon enough. The show is now streaming; new episodes air Fridays on Disney+.
