The former General Pryde from Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker is joining the Disney+ Loki show. It’s unknown at this time what role the multifaceted actor will be portraying. What we do know is that he joins a cast that’s already looking to be out of this world talented. Grant is an Academy Award nominated actor for his performance in Can You Ever Forgive Me?.
The cast for Loki is shaping up to include: Tom Hiddleston, Owen Wilson, Richard E. Grant, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Sophia Di Martino, and Cailey Fleming. There might also be some surprises from the MCU included, but those aren’t confirmed at this moment. The only sign we have from the show other than some set photos is the teaser that Marvel released during the Super Bowl. You can re-watch that teaser here. Kate Herron is directing the six episodes. She was the director of the Netflix smash, Sex Education. Rick and Morty writer Michael Waldron is the showrunner.
Why Is Loki Exciting For Fans Of The MCU?
Waldron is an exciting pick for showrunner for Loki. The show could have that same Rick and Morty feel of going through time and space. Loki has the Tesseract in his possession the last time we saw him in Avengers: Endgame. We’ll have to see just what he’s up to when the show releases in early 2021.
It’s not Grant’s first time in a Marvel film though. You might be asking yourself which MCU film you’ve seen him in, and it’s none. He starred in Fox’s Logan alongside Patrick Stewart and Hugh Jackman. He played Dr. Rice in that film that helped Laura escape her attackers. Grant has been somewhat type-cast as a villain in his time in Hollywood, which would make us think he’s going to portray some sort of villain on the six episode series.
