Milla Jovovich is poised to bring yet another monster video game series to the big screen. Following in the footsteps of Resident Evil, she now brings Monster Hunter to life. The Sony Pictures film arrives September 4, 2020. Today the studio released two, new teaser posters for the film, which you can see below!
The official synopsis for the film reads as follows:
Behind our world, there is another: a world of dangerous and powerful monsters that rule their domain with deadly ferocity. When Lt. Artemis (Milla Jovovich) and her elite unit are transported through a portal from our world to a new world, they are in for the shock of their lives. In her desperate attempt to get home, the brave lieutenant encounters a mysterious hunter (Tony Jaa), whose unique skills have allowed him to survive in this hostile land. Faced with relentless and terrifying attacks from the monsters, the warriors team up to fight back and find a way home.
Monster Hunter comes to the big screen
That Jovovich stars in Monster Hunter should come as no surprise: Paul W.S. Anderson is directing. Fans of the Resident Evil film franchise are well familiar with Anderson’s work as he’s directed the entire series. Joining Anderson and Jovavich is Thai martial artist, director and action choreographer Tony Jaa. He’ll portray the “mysterious hunter” opposite Jovovich.
Rounding out the Monster Hunter cast are Tip ‘T.I.’ Harris; Meagan Good; Diego Boneta; Josh Helman; Jin Au-Yeung; and one Ron Perlman.
Monster Hunter looks to be a fun, new adventure looking to capitalize on the success other, similar monster game franchises. (Look no further than Netflix’s The Witcher and Castelvania.) We’ll find out if it succeeds this fall when it hits theaters.
