Casting speculation when it comes to new movies is nothing new. (Star Wars fans are well aware; Brie Larson’s name has been linked to Star Wars for some time.) With the slate of Marvel movies on tap for the MCU’s Phase 4, you could almost make a game out of it. Sometimes the news out there is spot-on, such as with Angelina Jolie’s casting in Marvel’s Eternals. Other times, not so much. But when it comes straight from an actor’s mouth, well…. It’s possible we just might see comedian Bobby Lee in an upcoming Marvel film.
Lee is perhaps best known for his turn on MADtv from 2001 to 2009. He also appeared in Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle in 2004. These days he co-hosts a new, instantly popular YouTube show called “Bad Friends with Andrew Santino & Bobby Lee.” It was on the first episode that Lee revealed his possible Marvel involvement.
Bobby Lee to join upcoming Marvel film?
You can hear Bobby Lee talk about it around the 10:30 minute mark of the video above. He full on admits that he’d just auditioned for an upcoming Marvel movie. Of course there’s no certainty that he’ll actually appear in the unnamed MCU film. The fact that it comes up at all in the discussion, however, is interesting. Obviously Bobby Lee is known for his comedic talents. Marvel films have likewise become known for their comedic undertones, so adding someone like Lee makes sense. But… for what movie?
The 2020 MCU slate is already set, and production is already complete or nearing a wrap on those films. Black Widow kicks things off May 1, 2020, and the slate ends with Eternals in November. So, if Bobby Lee is auditioning for a new Marvel movie, the likelihood is that it is either for Shang-Chi, or the Doctor Strange sequel. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will arrive February 12, 2021. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness follows in May.
