At the Gallifrey One event in Southern California, we got some much needed details about the upcoming season of Doctor Who. Executive Producer, Tracie Simpson gave the crowd at the Tales From The Backlot panel some details. Jodie Whittaker will be returning for a third season. In addition to Jodie, writer/Show-runner Chris Chibnall will also return.
The interesting thing about this news besides the fact that it’s awesome they’re returning, is there wasn’t mention of any of the current Doctor’s companions. Now this could just mean she didn’t know about their current situation. Or it could be a sign that we’re getting some new companions for the upcoming season. It also could mean that some of the companions aren’t returning and some are. They don’t want to give out too much information for us Whovians. Hopefully as the convention goes on and we get more news, this’ll become more crystallized.
The last piece of news from the panel was that the upcoming season will begin filming in September 2020. It’s an exciting time to be a Doctor Who fan right now. We have one of the hottest story-lines going in the modern era of the show with two Doctors going at once. Jodie Whittaker’s time as the Doctor could have been fraught with problems, but so far, so good. The show is finishing up it’s second season with Whittaker right now, so we’ll see where it goes from here.
