Disney’s Jungle Cruise seemed like a half-baked idea when it was first announced. The idea of turning the classic Disneyland ride into a feature film was middling at best. How would you translate the comedy and fun of riding a boat through the fake amazon with fake animals? Well it looks like Disney might have found the secret to creating a great movie off a strange idea. Dwayne Johnson.
Yes, it’s true, Dwayne Johnson can make any idea these days into gold. Luckily for moviegoers, Jungle Cruise looks like a good one. Emily Blunt leads the trailer as Lily Houghton, an Indiana Jones esque explorer. Dwayne Johnson also stars as the riverboat captain, Frank. That’s all we know at the moment, and frankly (all puns intended with Johnson’s character), I don’t need to know anymore. I’d go see that movie right now. So to see a full trailer after hearing all of that makes the excitement level go up tenfold.
The film is being directed by Jaume Collet-Serra. Some other films he’s done are Orphan and Run All Night. His resume is pretty solid, so it looks like he can match the starpower of Blunt and Johnson. From the trailer, we can see that Blunt is an explorer or archaeologist of some sort and that Frank runs a shoddy boat operation. The energy and chemistry between the two stars jumps out immediately upon viewing. The film releases July 24th, 2020. It looks to be one of the more fun films coming out on Disney’s slate and I cannot wait to see it.
