Dan Aykroyd might have let it slip on the Joe Rogan Podcast last night that Bill Murray will be returning for the upcoming Ghostbusters 3. In the clip above around the 1:46 minute mark, Rogan asks Aykroyd about the upcoming film. This could be huge news as the third installment in the canon Ghostbusters franchise has been shooting for a bit now. Jason Reitman, the son of legendary director, Ivan Reitman, wrote and is directing the film.
Anything involving Bill Murray and the film has to be taken with a grain of salt. The star has been linked to a supposed third film for what seems like ages now. He was in the all-female Ghostbusters but only as a cameo. He wasn’t Pete Venkman.
The closest thing fans could have hoped to a third film for a long time was the video game Ghostbusters. They reunited the entire cast for what amounts to an eight hour film. The game is necessary for any fan of the films.
Paul Rudd, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Finn Wolfhard, and Sigourney Weaver are set to star so far. We haven’t received any concrete news about the film or what the original cast is going to do. There’ll apparently be a new generation of Ghostbusters in the film, but that’s all we know. It’s set for release, July 10th, 2020. The new film has a lot of promise. We’ll see if it can carry on the legacy of the previous two films in a tasteful and comedic way.
What I Think Of This Bill Murray News
I’m numb to Bill Murray/Ghostbuster news at this point. There have been too many news articles over the years saying he’s finally returning. Him returning to the character in a voice-only portrayal for the video game was good enough for me. It must be good news if Dan Aykroyd is keeping it tight lipped.
Ghostbusters is such a timeless and classic film. From children of the 80’s to kids now, everyone loves Ghostbusters and the way it blends horror, comedy, and action together. It’s a large legacy to live up to.
