BLack Knight

One of the most surprising announcements to come out of D23 Expo 2019 is that Kit Harington will join the MCU’s cast of Eternals. He’ll play Dane Whitman, AKA The Black Knight in the film.

The news lays to rest a flood of rumors that the Game Of Thrones actor and modern heartthrob was playing Moon Knight in the recently announced Disney+ series. (He was even rumored for Dark Knight himself, in the new Batman film for Warner Bros.) However, it seems Kit Harington isn’t ready to put down his sword yet as his new role as the master swordsman of the Marvel universe, the Black Knight.  Harington’s character isn’t one of the Eternals, but he does have a long history with the Avengers.

Kit Harington as The Black Knight

First appearing in 1967, Dane Whitman took up the mantle of the Black Knight in order to undo the deeds of his evil uncle and bring honor to his ancestor. Without any real powers to speak of (minus various magical enchanted weapons), just some gumption and some weet swordsman skills, Dane made his way into many of the prominent Marvel Comics teams such as the Avengers, Defenders and a few other groups that end with “ers”.

Marvel has canceled and rebooted the BlLack Knight many times over the years- so hopefully the devilishly handsome actor can bring a steady sales uptick to the character with the upcoming Eternals film.

The size of ex-John Snow’s part is unknown, but with such a huge cast, he might not be a main player.  He’ll have to share the screen with Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Gemma Chan as Sersi, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Barry Keoghan as Druig, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, and Angelina Jolieas Thena.   All under the direction of Chloé Zhao. That is a LOT for one film to share, hopefully this one will end better then the last time Kit raised a sword. We’ll find out on Nov 6 2020, when Eternals drops.
