While Marvel presented its Phase 4 titles at Comic Con, the MCU’s Phase 5 movies are shrouded in mystery. Or at least they were, until Charles Murphy on Twitter revealed a few key dates. Whether they’re accurate or not has yet to be seen, but it’s certainly something to discuss.
Charles Murphy released a couple of titles along with two other dates for unspecified films. While it’s currently still rumor, it should be noted that his track record is trustworthy. Not only did he reveal Marvel’s Phase 4 line-up prior to the Hall H panel, he’s also doled out important tidbits in the past. Without further ado, let’s look at the tweet in question:
“Always subject to change and still much we don’t know: Phase 5, V2,” the tweet read. Those Phase 5 dates, according to his source, included Black Panther 2 on February 18th, 2022 and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 on May 6th, 2022. In addition to that, and surprisingly close together, was a release date of July 29th, 2022 which was purposely left blank. Finally, skipping ahead a few years, the last date of May 3rd (or 10th), 2024 was assigned a shocked emoji.
Phase 5 Speculations Abound
Could the July date be a Disney+ series, or will 2022 follow 2019’s pattern of premiering three Marvel films in its first half? And what title could be so surprising that it warrants five years of advanced notice and its own emoji?
Marvel fans already know Phase 5 will contain Captain Marvel 2 and Blade, so it’s safe to assume those aren’t the titles left blank. While Disney confirmed that the X-Men and Fantastic Four franchises will join the MCU, there hasn’t really been a timeline set. Perhaps they are the 2022 film that’s still looming. Or perhaps the title of 2024’s movie gives something about them away?
After all, 2024 is about the right time for Marvel’s next multiverse-shattering event film. It might be too long of a wait for Avengers 5, but what if it’s something like Avengers Vs. X-Men? That would be a sight to see, no doubt. Then again, Captain Marvel‘s introduction of the Skrulls leaves room for Secret Wars to happen soon.
Whatever the answer is, we have more than enough MCU content to tide us over in the meantime. Black Widow, Eternals, Shang-Chi and so much more – and that’s not even counting Disney+. Nevertheless, it’s fun to guess what Phase 5 has in store. Let us know what titles you think are coming up, and check back with That Hashtag Show for the latest news on your favorite films.
