Jar Jar Binks, love him or hate him, he has become one of the most talked about characters in the STAR WARS Saga. Was he just a clumsy Gungan or a friend to the Dark Side? When you look at everything he has done, there is evidence to support both sides. In October of last year, I touched on this subject when the STAR WARS: Age of Republic #1 comic came out. So, I figured while we are waiting for The Rise of Skywalker to come out in December why not talk about Jar Jar again and look at where he is now and what his impact was on the STAR WARS universe.

Jar Jar Binks in the Beginning

We were first introduced to Jar Jar it was on the planet of Naboo. There, as the Trade Federation was invading, Binks was saved by Qui-Gon Jinn. From that moment we knew that this clumsy and foolish Gungan was going to be a hindrance to Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan. Well, we were partially correct, while he did slow them down at times. He did also have a positive impact in the battle on Naboo against the Trade Federation. Were his actions during that battle luck? Or did he know what he was doing the whole time?

Binks Gaining Trust

During the animated series STAR WARS: The Clone Wars, we see Jar Jar Binks more involved as a Senate representative of Naboo. There Jar Jar would work closely with a lot of characters that it would be important to gain their respect and trust. Ahsoka Tano, Anakin, Obi-Wan and of course Padme would be a few of these characters. Binks even went on an adventure with Mace Windu to save a Queen. Because of his work with these high-ranking characters he was given more responsibilities and was now trusted by many. And because of this we would soon see the biggest impact that Jar Jar Binks would have in the STAR WARS Saga.

Jar Jar Binks opens the gate for the Empire

So, in STAR WARS: Attack of the Clones, Jar Jar’s role was very small but it would have one of the biggest impacts in the rise of the Galactic Empire. Binks who was the acting representative of Naboo was convinced by Chancellor Palpatine to give a speech to the Senate to grant Palpatine emergency powers. These powers were granted and paved the way for the Empire to rise. So, because of Binks the Republic fell and he was not heard from again except for a brief appearance at Padme’s funeral in STAR WARS: Revenge of the Sith.

What became of Jar Jar Binks?

Binks’ last appearance in the Star Wars storyline was in the novel Aftermath: Empires End. There we found him performing as a street clown and being shunned by both the Gungans and the people of Naboo for his part in helping the Empire rise to power.

My no so sure.” The Gungan makes a hmm sound. “Mesa thinks it cause-o Jar Jar makin some uh-oh mistakens. Big mistakens. Der Gunga bosses banished me longo ago. Mesa no been to hom in for-ebbers. And desa hisen Naboo tink I help the uh-oh Empire.” (Jar Jar Binks in Aftermath: Empires end)
