It was a rollercoaster of emotions in The Walking Dead’s Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con.
Robert Kirkman addressed The Walking Dead comic abruptly ending only a few weeks ago. A teaser was dropped for a Walking Dead movie featuring the return of Rick Grimes and another trailer was shown for the upcoming Season 10.
The Walking Dead bids farewell to Michonne…
However, the biggest news was that the show will soon say goodbye to another one of its leads.
Danai Gurira confirmed that Season 10 of The Walking Dead will be her last playing Michonne. She gave a tearful goodbye and received a standing ovation from the hundreds of fans gathered in Hall H.
After the panel, the cast and crew divulged a bit more in a press conference. When everyone was asked how they were dealing with Gurira’s impending exit, Executive Producer Scott Gimple gave a rather cryptic response.
“She has some amazing things ahead of her and you know, we’re not completely done with her, I’ll just say that.”
When pressed for clarification he said, “I mean I would say we’re not completely done with like anyone who comes and goes on the show. You guys will see that.”
Is it possible that Gurira will return as Jon Bernthal did? He was featured in a Season 9 hallucination scene after his character died all the way back in Season 2. Perhaps there will be a flashback scene, a memory of Michonne that’s recalled by one of the characters still alive on the show?
Or maybe she’ll also pop up in the upcoming Rick Grimes Walking Dead movie. There’s no word yet on what Gimple truly meant but with Michonne being such a pivotal character in The Walking Dead (and let’s face it, the pop culture landscape) we can totally see how eager they are to have her return after her departure.
