Spider-Man: Far From Home hits theaters today, Tuesday, July 2nd. The film is set after the events of Avengers: Endgame, and shows Peter going on a school trip to Europe. Of course, the webslinger will, of course, be fighting evil as well.
But the new film almost incorporated something interesting. Jon Watts, the director of Far From Home, had mentioned to The Playlist that, “I remember one point we were talking about if one of the stops along the way through Europe was going to be New Asgard.”
Far From Home Almost Visited New Asgard
He didn’t end up elaborating on that, but that would been amazing to see Peter visit New Asgard, and perhaps Valkyrie. Then again, it could have also been a little distracting, and probably not made sense for the film’s story.
And for those who don’t know about New Asgard and why it would factor in Far From Home; don’t forget, Asgard fell in Thor: Ragnarok. Following the events of Avengers: Infinity War, Thor had relocated what remained of his people to earth and established “New Asgard” in Norway. Then he left with the Guardians of the Galaxy to go off to space at the conclusion of Avengers: Endgame. Before he dis so, however, Thor left New Asgard in the hands of Valkyrie.
One other interesting Easter Egg about New Asgard: the location. For Marvel fans who have seen Captain America: The First Avenger, the location of New Asgard is Tønsberg, Norway. That is the sleep little Norwegian hamlet from which the Red Skull had stolen the Tesseract.
While a Far From Home visit to New Asgard obviously didn’t happen, it would have made for a interesting moment in the film.
