The Light Pushes Back
Twenty years of darkness pass. The events of Rogue One and A New Hope set in motion a push by the light side to regain advantage. A simple attempt to reestablish connections to an old friend by Bail Organa awakens the light side counter attack. Luke Skywalker enters the galactic chess board.
After some adventures Luke Skywalker joins the currents of the force and trains with Yoda. The interesting thing occurs on Dagobah. Yoda may have never liked premonitions, but starting with Anakin and going through Luke, even Yoda has to admit at this point force visions are happening and influencing all that occurs. Yoda warned Anakin about the visions and he warns Luke as well. No matter what is seen, the future is not set and emotion is the future.
The most important part of Luke is not what he learns in the force, but the simple fact he exists. His very existence does something no one else could do. It awakens a long thought dead Jedi from the ashes. The remnants of Anakin Skywalker woke when he realized his son lived. The more Luke fought, the more powerful Luke became, the more powerful the mind of Anakin Skywalker becomes.
Yoda’s Prophecy
In Empire Strikes Back, Yoda gives a prophecy of his own to Luke. “Only a fully trained Jedi Knight, with the force as his ally, will conquer Vader and his Emperor”. Even after the fight on Bespin, Yoda states Luke is not a Jedi. Luke’s trial is not to fight and survive. Luke’s trial is to face Darth Vader, knowing he was once Anakin Skywalker, his father.
Luke faces Vader and Sidious on the Deathstar. He nearly falls to the dark side, but he resists, thanks to Sidious’ inability to keep his mouth shut. Luke declares himself a Jedi, and while he may have faced his trial, note what Yoda said “Only a fully trained Jedi Knight…”. Luke may now be a Jedi, but he is not fully trained. We shall revisit this in a minute. In his stupidity he tosses away his lightsaber. Sidious then fries Luke with his hatred. Game over. Luke Loses.
Return of a Jedi
It as it this point the conflict ends. Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker rises and defeats the darkness that was Darth Vader. He then seizes Sidious and tosses him over the railing. Anakin Skywalker defeats the Sith.
Of course the effort of what he did costs Anakin his life as well. It is at this point that the force finds balance and Anakin Skywalker fulfills the prophecy.
