Who Sits the Iron Throne at the conclusion of the Game of Thrones Finale?

The Iron Throne
The Iron Throne

This is the biggest question of them all, and also the most complex. While a normal show would have us believe only one ending is possible at this point, this show has made its name by delivering the exact opposite of what traditional literature would do. I count four names and five possibilities for the throne of swords.

Aegon (Jon) Targaryen, Sixth of his Name

This is the fan favorite and ‘safe’ choice for who will finally sit the throne. He adamantly states he does not want it, but as Optimus Prime said: “Destiny rarely calls upon us at a time of our choosing.” He has the bloodline and the loyalty of the North to take the throne or have it thrust upon him and stick.

Would Dani let him rule? Given her descent into madness, probably not. There is a chance she pulls a mea culpa, regrets her actions and steps aside, but again that is the safe and predictable route. Expect a fight her and most likely her death.

Aegon takes the throne. Sansa takes the North. Quick. Clean. Easy. And has about a 2% chance of happening. This world does not operate on quick, clean and easy.

Daenerys Targaryen, First of her name and a owner of a million titles.

Dani is the second most likely to sit the throne at the end of the Game of Thrones finale. She has the second best claim and her descent into darkness means she will likely do anything required to seize the throne. She possesses both troops and a dragon to have the military might behind her to claim the throne. Fear is her tool, and she wields it like a true Targaryen.

Could Jon kill Dani? I do not think so, but could Dani kill Jon? Yes. She knows his is the stronger claim. She has chosen fear as her tool, and she knows she stands alone. While some shade of regret might come afterwards, I see little doubt she holds the ability to strike down any and all who oppose her. The throne is her obsession.
