Shocking and saddening news in the world of professional wrestling, as former WWE superstar Ashley Massaro had died at the age of 39.
Ashley Massaro entered the world of wrestling via the 2005 Raw Diva Search. She won that competition, and ten days later she made her in-ring debut. During her three year run with the company, she competed for the WWE Women’s Championship at WrestleMania 23 in 2007. She did not win the championship on the grandest stage of them all, however. Notwithstanding, she will forever have that WrestleMania moment. Likewise, fans will always remember her for it.
The Wrestling World Mourns Ashley Massaro
Along with her wrestling career, Massaro competed on the fifteenth season of Survivor (Survivor:China) and also graced the cover of Playboy in April of 2007. She appeared on an episode of Smallville, alongside WWE Superstar Kane.
In March of this year, the wrestling fan-favorite had appeared to be hinting via her Twitter account that she was looking to return to the wrestling ring. Sadly, that is something we will unfortunately never see.
That Hashtag Show joins the wrestling community in mourning Ashley Massaro. We offer our condolences to her family, friends, and fans.
WWE took to Twitter today to issue the following statement:
