Stanley Martin Lieber, or as the world knew him Stan Lee, was an American comic book writer, editor, publisher, and producer. His collaboration with the writers and artists like Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko at Marvel gave us some of the most recognized and loved Marvel characters of all time. He co-created numerous superheroes including Spider-Man, the X-Men, Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk, the Fantastic Four, Black Panther, Daredevil, Doctor Strange, Scarlet Witch and Ant-Man. Basically without him we would have no Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Stan Lee passed away at the age of 95 in November of 2018. Since then, fans started a campaign online to get the City of New York to commission a memorial statue for the late comic publisher. New York City is the perfect spot for his memorial. Manhattan is where he was born and later worked for Timely Comics, which eventually became Marvel.
How can I support the Stan Lee memorial?
A petition was started on Change.org by David Gourlay for the Stan Lee memorial. On the petition’s landing page David wrote that he started the petition because “…I have enjoyed and respected his work, like many others over the years, and think a statue in his honour would be right for keeping his memory alive.” The petition had over 86,000 signatures at the time this article was written.
While Stan Lee is gone, we need only go as far as our movie collections to see him again. According to IMDb.com he was credited with 126 actor credits. Most of those credits are Marvel related films, TV series, animated shows and video games. His cameo appearances in MCU films were as anticipated as end-credit stingers.
So, with that I leave you with two thoughts. First, if Stan Lee had an impact on your life like he did mine, click the link and sign the petition. Second, in the words of Stan himself…
Excelsior!
