Now that Disney owns Fox and all of the X-Men characters, Kevin Feige is now going to be able to play around with these newly acquired characters.
The Avengers: Endgame directors, Joe and Anthony Russo, have said that Endgame will be their last movie with Marvel Studios. But they did reveal to Business Insider what X-Men characters could bring them back to the MCU.
Joe Russo did mention 2 characters in particular: “I love Ben Grimm from the Fantastic Four. Doctor Doom was always one of my favorite villains.”
One of the other X-Men that Joe Russo had mentioned he would love to feature in a film is Wolverine. Notwithstanding, Russo noted that Wolverine has “got to be set aside for a little while.” Fan speculation about Scott Eastwood taking over the character aside, Hugh Jackman is a tough act to follow.
Will the X-Men Lure The Russos Back to the MCU?
Wolverine actor Hugh Jackman did hang up the Wolverine claws in 2017’s Logan film. He has mentioned in several interviews in the past that he would come back to the character if Disney/Marvel had gotten the Fantastic Four and the X-Men back.
Since Marvel now owns the Fantastic Four and X-Men, the movies can be made better. And the characters can be connected into the bigger MCU. But it is going to be interesting once Feige announced the Phase 4 slate what films are included.
We know a Black Widow film is in the works. The Eternals will also may their way from page to screen. We know nothing beyond that. The Phase 4 announcement is imminent, it just depends where it will be announced.
Marvel has the option to announced the new slate of films at either SDCC this year or at D23 this year. It really all depends on when they feel like it’s the right time and place to announce Phase 4. Whether the X-Men will be part of that announcement remains to be seen.
