Cameron Monaghan: The Star Wars Casting No One Is Talking About
Gotham star Cameron Monaghan is the latest post Order 66 Jedi, Cal Kestis. Best known for his television portrayal of the Joker, he is now the face of Jedi: Fallen Order. Now, while you might think, “well it’s a video game it doesn’t count,” we’re here to tell you otherwise.
In this Disney era of Star Wars, every major character becomes marketable. Jedi: Fallen Order is certainly expected to be a massive seller. Likewise, the story is canon. This means, from a marketing perspective, Cameron Monaghan is the star of this story. Expect plenty of merchandise and other stories to revolve around this character. And what is his story, exactly?
The official synopsis from Respawn Entertainment tells us the game follows Cal Kestis, “one of the last surviving members of the Jedi Order after the purge of Order 66, ” a Padawan on the run. In the game you can develop “your Force abilities, hone your lightsaber techniques, and explore the ancient mysteries of a long-lost civilization—all while staying one step ahead of the Empire and its deadly Inquisitors.”
Banking on Fallen Order’s (Hopeful) Success
We here at That Hashtag Show always felt like Lucasfilm dropped the ball by not seizing on the popularity of The Knights Of The Old Republic. It literally took decades before the creative minds behind Star Wars would correct that mistake. Now, Game of Thrones show-runners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are rumored to be producing an Old Republic trilogy. While fans welcome these new developments, many feel it took way to long to develop.
Don’t, however, expect this to happen again. If this Jedi: Fallen Order game becomes as massive a hit as many feel it will, Lucasfilm is sure to immediately capitalize on the game’s anticipated popularity. That means development in other formats. And that also means Cameron Monaghan is going to get a lot more screen time.
