TMS Entertainment will premiere the popular Detective Conan (aka Case Closed) series’ 23rd feature length, Detective Conan: The Fist of Blue Sapphire in Japan on April 12th, 2019.

Directed by Chika Nagaoka, who is the first female director for the series, The Fist of Blue Sapphire takes place overseas in Singapore (another movie series first) adding a fresh new perspective to the long-running franchise that is expected to be an even bigger hit than last year’s Detective Conan: Zero the Enforcer which was the top-earning Animation movie of 2018 in Japan.

TMS Entertainment Co., Ltd. (“TMS”) has co-produced the new animated movie, Detective Conan: The Fist of Blue Sapphire, the 23rd installment in the Detective Conan series, based on the original manga by Gosho Aoyama. The new film will be released nationwide in Japan on April 12th.

The Latest Film of a Blockbuster Series

The previous movie in the series, Detective Conan: Zero the Enforcer, recorded the highest box office revenue of the series so far, earning 9.18 billion yen in Japan and has become the top-earning Japanese Animation movie of 2018. TMS is actively working on overseas licensing and plan to release the movie in various countries after its domestic release.

The First Female Director

Directing Detective Conan: The Fist of Blue Sapphire will beChika Nagaoka, who has acted as the assistant director in the 21st feature length, Detective Conan: The Crimson Love Letter, making her the first female director for the Detective Conan movie series.

Story

When Kid the Phantom Thief learns that the world’s biggest sapphire, the “Fist of Blue Sapphire”, is kept in an underground safe of a mansion in Singapore, he takes Detective Conan against his wishes overseas in search of the treasure that was once thought to be long lost. As Kid closes in on the coveted jewel, the fountain of Merlion begins to spout out blood red water, as if to foreshadow the unfolding of something ominous.

Staff and Cast

Musical actor Ikusaburo Yamazaki and actress Mayuko Kawakita join the cast for the first time as special guests.

The theme song, “BLUE SAPPHIRE” contributed by HIROOMI TOSAKA, a member of J SOUL BROTHERS III from EXILE TRIBE, captures the worldview and hidden feelings of each characters in

the film. Takahiro Okura, a scriptwriter joins for the second time since Detective Conan: The Crimson Love Letter. Long-time members involved in the staff and cast include Katsuo Ohno writing the music,

Minami Takayama starring as the main character Conan Edogawa, along with Wakana Yamazaki as Ran Mori, Rikiya Koyama as Kogoro Mori, and Kappei Yamaguchi is featured in the role of Kid the Phantom Thief.
