Cody Rhodes starts by saying: “I love my brother.” That’s how the latest episode of The Road to Double or Nothing starts. It takes a turn from there.
“My entire lot, my whole class of peers has been compared to these gilded late-90s through the early 2000s [stars]for over a decade, and it’s an utter sham. Sure, you paved the roads for us, but you set the speed markers at 35 because you are terrified of any of us putting our [expletive] foot down on the pedal.”
“You mean to tell me some pissant bodybuilder making every match a No DQ, meandering around the crowd, throwing the jib cam at his opponent, compares with a Kenny/Okada match? Or some bra-and-panties ‘spectacular’ can match up with what the women did last September 1st? Or even Dwayne. As electric as it was, rhyming and raising — was it really better than what Punk said sitting on that stage?”
Cody Rhodes Speaks Out
That was a cheeky jab with the pissant bodybuilder reference, and a nice little nod to CM Punk, as well. But beyond that, Cody Rhodes gives us a nicely put together promo. One with both anger and sadness. AEW has done a very good job of building up their matches for Double Or Nothing through these YouTube videos. Each video is a nice production in and of itself. This trend seems to be a sign of things to come towards the end of the year.
Until then, we are less than a month away from AEW’s Double or Nothing. It will take place Saturday, May 25 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Joining the Cody vs. Dustin Rhodes match-up is Kenny Omega vs. Chris Jericho, PAC vs. “Hangman” Page, and The Young Bucks vs. Pentagon Jr. and Fenix.
