The Skywalker Saga will come to a close in Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker. However, it may not be the end for the franchise’s newest generation of characters.
Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy told MTV News that there might be a time for Rey, Poe, and/or Finn to return to the films.
“You know, there is an appropriate time. We’re using this appropriate time as an opportunity to see where we’re going now that we’re leaving the Skywalker Saga behind. But there’s no question that there’s certain characters that we’ve created certainly in the last three movies that we may very well wanna see down the line in the future.”
It sounds like Lucasfilm is taking a good, long look at its future. That’s no surprise considering the underwhelming box office performance of Solo: A Star Wars Story. They’re surely also thinking about their increasingly outspoken fanbase.
There’s also the matter of Disney’s new streaming platform, Disney+. Kennedy mentioned that the service represents the potential for new, smaller stories that are completely unrelated to the films.
Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker will debut in theatres on December 20, 2019.
