Last night we told you about a leaked poster containing the title of Star Wars: Episode IX as “Will of the Force.” We based that report on a leaked poster that found it’s way to the Internet. Just now at Star Wars Celebration, JJ Abrams and Kathleen Kennedy confirmed the title to be otherwise. Episode IX now has a name.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker
Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker is the culmination of over forty years of Star Wars storytelling. It is also the final story in the Skywalker saga and the effect that the family had on the galaxy. What began as a tale of a farm boy learning about the Force and saving the galaxy blossomed into a multi-billion franchise over the years. Fan anticipation, despite any misgivings over The Last Jedi, is high for the final episodic installment.
Returning for Episode IX: The Rise of Skywlker are the sequel trilogy’s stars, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, and John Boyega. Joining them through the use of previous unseen footage will be the late Carrier Fisher in her final Star Wars role. Newcomers Naomi Ackie, Richard E. Grant, Keri Russell, Matt Smith, and Dominic Monaghan will make their Star Wars debuts with Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker.
Of course it wouldn’t be Star Wars without Mark Hamill. Although Luke Skywalker perished in The Last Jedi, Hamill will return for Episode IX.Lando Calrissian will also return to the franchise as Billy Dee Williams is back to reprise the smooth scoundrel role.
