WWE has confirmed Torrie Wilson will be the newest WWE Superstar to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
Before entering the wrestling business Wilson was a well known fitness model not unlike fellow hall of famer Trish Stratus.
Wilson started her wrestling career when she visited backstage at a WCW show with her boyfriend at the time. She was asked by Scott Steiner to walk him to the ring. The brief wrestling “job” was enough to make her want to stay.
She wrestled in WCW from 1999 until WWE bought WCW in 2001. Wilson quickly became a fan favorite In WCW. Wilson’s WCW career most consisted of a valet role or a female manager who impact matches by using their looks. She was mostly known for seducing David Flair and later storylines with her former husband, Billy Kidman.
When the WCW invasion was underway Wilson was a key female competitor in that storyline. Wilson’s most well known rivalry was with that of fellow WCW alumna, Stacy Keibler. However, many fans will most remember her feud with Dawn Marie in which Torrie’s father was being seduced by Marie.
In 2008 Wilson’s injuries forced her into retirement. However, this gave her an opportunity to focus on a new career. Wilson began to help others to get in shape with Torrie Wilson Fit.
The wrestling bug bit Wilson again in 2018 when she entered the all-women Royal Rumble match. She again returned to the ring when she entered the the Battle Royal match at WWE’s all women pay-per-view, Evolution.
Wilson was not the high level wrestler of some of her contemporaries like Lita, Mickie James or Trish Stratus. However, she was still a bridge between the pretty model wrestler and a legitimate wrestler. Wilson proved that a model who was not a wrestling fan can learn to wrestle and become an entertaining competitor with her looks only surpassed by her athleticism.
The Hall of Fame ceremony will be held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. on Saturday, April 6. The rest of the 2019 class currently consists of D-Generation X and The Honky Tonk Man.
