Rosemarie Dewitt (La La Land, Poltergeist) has signed on for the lead role of Nina Locke in Netflix’s adaptation of the IDW comic Locke and Key. We first reported that Netflix’s plans to develop the series in May of 2018.
DeWitt’s Nina has her life turned upside down following a home invasion that takes the life of her husband and leaves her badly wounded. The once free-spirited Nina attempts to recover from her wounds and alcoholism while shouldering the full responsibility of her three children: Kinsey, Tyler and Bode. Moving to her late husband’s ancestral home, Keyhouse, in Matheson, Massachusetts, Nina and the children find it full of fascinating magical keys, exciting powers and a sinister demon intent on manipulating and tormenting the Lockes. Actor Bill Heck has been offered the role of Nina’s husband, Rendell Locke, but had not agreed to the role at the time of publication.
Emilia Jones, Connor Jessup and Jackson Robert Scott were previously cast as Kinsey, Tyler and Bode, respectively. Actor Petrice Jones will join the cast as Scot Kavanaugh, a horror movie buff whose friendship with Kinsey develops into something more over the course of the series.
Locke and Key is set to begin filming in Toronto on February 12th and wrap sometime in late June. The series will consist of 10, one-hour episodes though no release date has been set at this time.
