That kid on the ground in blue? That’s Jason Reitman

*DISCLAIMER*

I was not a fan of the 2016 reboot, I was excited for it and I was hoping it would be good, but alas, it was not. Outside of Leslie Jones, the 3 main characters felt like they were all the same person, just in different roles. The villain was weak (a common problem for movies) and it felt like it was trying too hard to capture the nostalgia of the first movie instead of focusing on making a GOOD STORY. This is going to sound oxymoronic, but it was neither similar enough or different enough from the original for it to resonate with me. It honestly just felt like a supernatural version of Bridesmaids (a movie which I did enjoy).

The News:

This new film will be taking place firmly in the original movie universe, when asked about the story or what characters will be involved Reitman said “I want the film to unwrap like a present. We have a lot of wonderful surprises and new characters for the audience to meet.” So who are these new characters? Will any of the original cast show up?

I think it’s safe to say that both Dan Akroyd and Ernie Hudson will be there, but Bill Murray is a bit more of a wild card, he did cameo in the reboot though, so there’s a good chance he’ll at least make some sort of appearance in the film.

Rick Moranis is a bit of a tougher call he turned down a cameo in the 2016 film because he thought it didn’t make sense to show up just for a day to revisit a franchise from 30 years ago. . . BUT, he did recently provide the voice of Dark Helmet for an episode of The Goldbergs, so who knows?

Annie Potts . . . I’m not sure, probably She also returned for a cameo in 2016 and lent her voice to the video game in 2009. . . so. . . yeah I think she’ll be back. And finally, Sigourney Weaver. . . I think she’ll show. She did decline to lend her voice to the most recent Ghostbusters video Game, but she did show up for a cameo in the reboot.

While this is incredibly exciting and I’m going to hold out hope that it’ll be good, I don’t want to get so hyped up for the film that I’m disappointed regardless of quality. Reitman co-wrote the script with Gil Kenan who is known for both Monster House which is a really fun film and the Poltergeist remake, which was sorta meh.

Make sure to keep following That Hashtag Show for new information on the film as it’s released.
