Nicki Minaj has been rapping for over ten years. Like many in the singing world, she continues to attempt to break into the a biz. With movies such as Ice Age: Continental Drift, Ride Along and Barbershop: The Next Cut under her belt she has made a nice start. Now the rapper is joining the cast of The Angry Birds Movie 2.

While her role in this film hasn’t been released yet, she is joining a cast that includes Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Bill Hader, Danny McBride, Peter Dinklage, Leslie Jones, and more. Such a rich talent pool of voices can really add to a film, making it better than it should be.

The first angry birds movie managed $107 million domestically/$352 million worldwide. On a reported $73 million budget the sequel was quickly green lit. Birds 2 is due out August of 2019. The interesting thing about this release date is that it aligns with the 10th anniversary of the release of the popular phone game. The game has countless variations and has been downloaded over 4 billion times.

Nicki’s role is unknown right now, but perhaps they will introduce a new bird to the gaming flock, the blue booby bird. Nicki should do a good job regardless of her role. She has been solid in her past performances. She has done a good job so far of not overstepping her limits as an actress. Actors and actresses that are famed in other sports often try biting off more than they can chew too early and it tanks their careers.

We are seeing more actors like Nicki, Dave Bautista and especially Lady Gaga who take rolls that play to their strengths while they learn and grow their acing chops. This leads to far better and longer careers than those who shoot for starring roles when they are not ready.
